CANADIAN SENIORS KITCHENER 2009

Heritage Greens, Kitchener Ontario

GOLD

Lyall Adams(S), Roger Allen, Jim Gear, Alberta

SILVER
Lena Cameron(S), Vivian Conoran,Val Bechard, Nova Scotia
Jack Robar(S), Graham Doyle, Mike Hadley, Nova Scotia

BRONZE

Keith Roney(S), David Calam, Ralph Van Iderstine Saskatchewan

Mon. Aug 31 8:00 PM - The Lyall Adams team settled the final RR standings and retained their gold opportunity with their close 15-13 win over ON'B'. That made Alberta 1st and John Wilson 4th in the final standings. Meanwhile Jack Robar of NS moved back into 2nd place ahead of Keith Roney of Sask. with a win and using the tie breaker system.
Women - By golly the Katherine Smith squad made it to the Play Off threshold but the door closed when Alberta procured the last ticket over ON'B'. These same two teams do it all over again for the Bronze medal to-morrow.
The Gold game features Manitoba with an unbelievable + 167 RR differential against Nova Scotia.
This will be a closer game than the first encounter between the two teams.

Sun. Aug 30 8:30 PM John Wilson, John Ferguson, Murray Taylor will play for a medal, colour to be determined. If they beat Alberta in R9, there is a possibility that On'B', AB, SK and NS could be tied for 1st at the end of the RR. But do note that both Andy Wepruk QC'B' and Brant Fenske MB have been playing their opponents tough of late. If ON'B' do win this game, they have the extra burden to win big since they trail in point differential among the 4 involved teams. A great RR finish to a hotly contested week.
Women - Wow, Manitoba didn't climb into 1st place, they stomped to the top over Nova Scotia. But the women in blue will get another chance to go for gold on Tuesday.
And how about the teams from New Brunswick. Wins have been difficult to achieve this week but both teams won and may have pushed Alberta and Ontario 'A' out of the medal round.
But hold the phone, there is a glimmer for ON'A'
Donna McCallum, Mary Meldrum and Heather Comba will play for Bronze and they do have an opportunity to help Katherine Smith, Heather Pettit, Vi Hirst ON'A' be their opponent. Of course Katherine and team have the main job by defeating QC'A', ON'B' take care of Alberta and 1st place Manitoba finish the job by beating Saskatchewan. It makes for good scoreboard watching.

Sun. Aug 30 Men - If Patt Begg's of NB beats Lyall Adams (AB) in Round 8, there could be 5 teams tied for 1st going into the final round. An important win for John Wilson, John Ferguson, Murray Taylor ON'B' in R7 over 1st place Jack Robar of NS. ON'B' in the run for the roses.
Women - R7 had 'no doubt' games. Both Manitoba and Nova Scotia determined they are the serious pursuers of gold. They will play a warm-up game in R8 and then do it again for real on Saturday. Ontario 'B', Donna McCallum, can play for a medal if they beat QC'A' in R8.
Katherine Smith(S), Heather Pettit, Vi Hirst ON'A' must win in R8 to maintain a slim chance to extend their tournament to the finals.

Sat. Aug 29 Men - Jack Robar's three some from Nova Scotia vaulted over Lyall Adam's Edmonton trio to the top of the standings with a 17-12 win over Adams in Round 6. Four other teams are within 2 points of the leaders with 1 1/2 days to play in the Round Robin.
Women - On the distaff side Lena Cameron, Vivian Conoran and Val Bechard of NS
are alone on top with a two win day. Ontario 'B' followed suit to put Donna McCallum, Mary Meldrum and Heather Comba in the thick of the medal hunt.
The men have a 6 team race while the women are already setting up the final four. Sunday will go a long way in making that picture a lot clearer.

What a field for the 2009 Championships. Many of these players hurried home from British Columbia, did their wash and continued their cross Canada summer tour.
