MEN'S SINGLES
GOLD MATCH
DARREN BURNETT SCOTLAND 21 RYAN BESTER CANADA 9
Ryan was up 3-1 early and then Burnett countered with a 4/3/2 run  to go up 10-3 and set his sails for the finish line. The home country police officer completed a splendid double, winning the 2014 World Indoor Chanpionship as well.
Nevertheless a great performance by Bester as his silver success in this event coupled with his World Pairs title in 2004 with Keith Roney adds credence to his recognition as one of Canada's top bowlers ever.

RYAN BESTER CANADA vs DARREN BURNETT SCOTLAND
Couldn't be better. Host country favourite vs Canada's best bowler in the CWG Lawn Bowling finale.
Two countries that attended a winter camp together in Sarasota Florida in preparation for this very scene. Splendid.

SEMI-FINALS
July 31, 7:45 AM DST
RYAN BESTER CANADA 21 SHANNON McILROY 10 NEW ZEALAND
Smokin - Never tied, never behind. Ryan was leading 9-5 after 9 ends then took the winning run of 1/3/2. That made the score 15-5 and Bester rode the spurt all the way to the end.
Certainly a tougher match for Bester in this round. Mcilroy defeated England's Sam Tolchard 21-12 in his 1/4. But the lad from Hanover has had some time to adjust to the different conditions bowling in Scotland in comparison to his Australian home base. Two down unders, it should be a good one.
QUARTER-FINALS
July 31, 3:45 AM DST
RYAN BESTER CANADA 21 vs HARRY MUSONDA ZAMBIA 5
All Ryan in this match. Nine multiple scores including 2X 3 and a 4.

July 30, 8:00 AM Update
July 29 11:50 PM DST Here we are. At the end of the Round Robin play on July 30th when all the countries are still active.
And on the 30th Canada has the opportunity to qualify all 4 teams for the Quarter-finals.
GEORGE WHITELAW, KEVIN JONES, CHRIS STADNYK, TIM MASON
need to beat South Africa. Pure and simple.
RYAN BESTER To Quarter-finals 21-19 over Fiji
Ryan has won his first 2. Beat Fiji early morning and he is in. Bester will play Malaysian in his final section game, a top flight opponent. Best to have that as a warm up game not a 'do or die' match.
KELLY McKERIHEN, LAURA HAWRYSZKO, MARY ANN BEATH Not to be NZ 23-12
Beat New Zealand and Fiji lose or tie. Points would be even between Canada and Fiji if the latter draws but Canada would have a better Differential.
LEANNE CHINERY, JACKIE FOSTER - Drats, so close. England 14 Canada 13
Beat England will do it and a little help. Two defeats by Wales also gets Canada in on the differential tie breaker.

Watching when I can on the road. Home July 28
No time to get off to a slow start in this competition. For example the women's Fours have 3 games over 3 days.Short schedule and with point differential being so crucial in each section, it is a reminder to the teams of the value of each point scored and lost.
The reason for the unbalanced sections - The draw is made 1 week after the close of entries. If a team withdraws after the draw, their space will become a bye. No re-draws.

Down early 0-5 Canada tied it at 5-5 after the 5th end. Jersey replied with a 4 and a 3 in the 6th and 7 ends and the game story was written.
It might mean a victory over New Zealand will be necessary to advance to the 1/4's.

Friday, July 25 Guernsey 18 Canada 16
Up early then down by 10 after giving up a 5 in the 9th end. A stirring comeback culminated by scoring 3 in the 17th end to tie game at 16-16. All for naught as Guernsey held on with a final last end pair. Ends won Canada 10 Guernsey 8

Canada came back with 4 in 4th but big lead too much. Score rest of way 7-11.

Friday, July 25 South Africa 19 Canada 9
Down 0-11 after 6 ends was too big a margin to reclaim. The good sign was that Canada did outscore RSA 9-8 and win more ends 5-4 in the final 9 ends of the game.

Saturday, July 26 Canada 14 Norfolk Island 13
Down 8-11 after 10 ends, Canada scored 6 points in next 4 ends to lead 14-11 with one E to go. NFK grabbed a pair but the margin was enough for the win.

Thursday, July 24 Papua New Guinea 16 Canada 10
Canada slow start to trail by 1-8 after 5 ends. Crawled back to 7-9 after 12 E but a 3-1-2 run by PNG restored the margin to victory.
The top 3 teams in this group look like Canada, PNG and Malaysia. It is up to Canada to win 2 tomorrow including over the undefeated Malaysian team.

Friday, July 25 Malta 20 Canada 6
All Malta in this match. They scored a 4 in the 3rd end after a 1-1 tie and went on from there.
Tradition says this is in reality an immigrated Australian team.

Friday, July 25 Canada 14 vs Malaysia 13
A tight match between the undefeated Malaysian men and a Canadian team out to show their ability to break the streak.
And tight it was. Canada did make a 10 point run early and lead  10-3 after 9 ends. Malaysian fought back and in fact took the lead at 12-12 after 17 ends, A dandy 2 in the 18th sealed the win. Ends won 9-9.

Saturday, July 26 Northern Ireland 22 Canada 15
This match was tied at 13-13 after 12 ends but a 4 score in the 14th E by NI seemed to be the spark NI needed. The Canadians nibbled at first to 15-17 after 15 ends but NI won the next 3 to complete their win.
The final sectional position for Canada was 5th with 2 W 3L Diff -21 Pts 6 . The points were the same as Papua New Guinea but again point differential was the determiner.

Kelly faces E Moceiwai in her single game tomorrow and must win the next two days and get some help. Her point differential is good so not out of the playoff round yet.
