Men's Pairs - O'E This is how you script the final round. We know who will play for the medals but we don't know how they will sort themselves out. Will it be the boys see sawing back and forth in the standings from Ontario, Larry McLellan, Jurgen Fessler or Ryan Stadnyk and Wayne Wright. Perhaps the Nova Scotia duo of Steve Ogden and Steve Bezanson can hang on to first after all or will youth prevail from Sask. Alex Scott(S), Michael Pituley. It is made for TSN.
Women's Pairs - Unbelievable. Clarice and Shirley can sit back and watch the mad scramble.Seven teams, yes 7 including Laila Hassan/ Chrystal Shephard and Helen Culley/ Shirley Ko, are in the running for a medal game. It gives me a headache just thinking about the combinations for success.
Women's Fours - Jo Anne Bugler, Maureen Thompson Sharron Farrish and Carol Carter will play for a medal Staurday. Their choice - beat Alberta in Round 9 and then play them again for gold.
Men's Singles - Decided by the first game of the first round by a 21 -20 score. Even if Gary Laurence of Sask. defeats Vern Greenhill in Round 9 and Jeff Harding defeats Ivan Johannson of Alberta, the tiebreaker is the head to head match in the round robin. It will be an all BC gold medal match and Jeff will play for bronze.
Women's Singles - Josephine Lee will play for gold after beating Jean Roney in Round 8. Her opponent will be decided by the winner of the game between 2nd place Anne Van Bastelaere and 3rd place Roney - simple. Marg Lepere has given herself a chance to make the medal round with a dandy win over Lena Cameron of Nova Scotia in Rd 8 - but she needs help. If fellow Ontario bowler Susan Karlins ( Susan has caught her breath and game after a slow start )beats Cameron and the undefeated Lee beats Valerie Carrier of Quebec and , the hard part, Lepere slows the Rosina Toal 3 game win streak, it's in the bag.
Men's Fours - Quebec and Saskatchewan will play for gold and Bill Falconer, Jim Lepere, John Bush and George Lalicich control their own opportunity for a bronze medal. Beat Nova Scotia in Round 9.
Thurs Aug 20 7:00 AM I am scratching my head this morning. I kept checking until midnight last night for the results from the 4:30 PM EDT games in round 6. Up at 6:30 AM and I am still not able to pick them up.Ah, here we go. The results are up to the end of Round 6.
A clarification of the " relegated' statement below. I have no status in the official scoring, recording or publishing of results. No one is or should be responsible for providing the information personally to me. I only speak as a fan of the sport and publish the results because I know there are many like me who follow the events closely and like to know the scores and standings as soon as possible. Canadian Championships are a marketing tool to be used to keep the members and others informed and interested. My intent is not to compete but to complement publication of entertaining news. And by the way, OLBA President Arja Nesbitt and Herb have been very helpful in directing me to a source for information.
Thurs Aug 20 A big day in deciding if a team competes for a medal or becomes a spectator.
The Pairs event has special significance to-day. Number one it is a jammed full of challengers event in both the women's and men's sides. Helen Culley and Shirley Ko won 2 yesterday including a thrashing of Alberta and to-day it is a giant meeting day in that they play against front running Manitoba and 2nd place BC 'B'. Laila Hassan and Chyrstal Shephard have it 'easier' but do need a pair of wins to get back into the fray after losing a pair yesterday.
Ryan Stadnyk and Wayne Wright have a go at the top running, undefeated Steve Ogden/ Steve Bezanson this PM after playing a competitive Quebec team in the morning. It will be interesting to see how the youth of Alex Scott and Michael Pituley of Sask do aginst NS in the AM.
Larry McLellan and Jurgen Fessler should hold serve to-day.
An important game for Jo Anne Bugler's group against Kerry O'Reilly this AM if they want to try and overtake Alberta and Manitoba and play for gold. Then they have to face Debbie Foster , a former National Team member, in the PM when Manitoba are trying to narrow the gap of the leading Alberta team.
Jeff Harding is in the hunt and needs to push beyond Terry O'Neil of NS in the PM after an AM game with Quebec. Dave Houtby can get 2 but watch out for Glenn Singleton. I remember Glenn from way back and he obviously still can play this game of Singles.
Roger Thompson and crew take on the undefeated Quebec team this morning while Bill Falconer's group have to be the winner against Manitoba to maintain medal possibilities.
The big match in the women's Singles will be 1st place Josephine Lee of BC vs Sask.'s Jean Roney in the afternoon.
Wed Aug 19 7:00 AM Perhaps it is my lack of computer search ability that is causing my dilemma but I'm missing the opportunity to be a keen fan and a part of the Championships. Instead I have been relegated to tuning in to the late night show for highlights.
We are coming to the half way point of the competition and the trends are developing.
SINGLES - Ontario had their turn and now it is the head to head matches for the BC players.
Women - I watched Josephine Lee at National camp and bowled against Anne Van Bastelaere in Arizona. Both are cool and talented draw bowlers and they are undefeated. The Jean Roney against Quebec's Valerie Carrier will be revealing. I don't know Valerie so I am interested to know if she is a true contender. I do know Jean. An experienced elite bowler who intends to move from a 2008 silver singles medal to the next level. Marg starting to move, Susan a tough start.
Men - It's a ONBC sandwich. The four are squeezed to-gether at the top of the standings. The BC-BC clash might loosen the package and Jeff and Dave need to keep the others at bay.
PAIRS - Women - A strong field here. Might be a must win for Helen Culley in her game against Alberta's Chris Adams and Laila Hassan needs to create some breathing room by beating another experienced former National Team player Alice Duncalf.
Men - The Ontario teams played a thriller , Ryan Stadnyk 16-15 over Larry McLellan. Ryan needed it more than Larry based on the standings but both must keep winning to maintain a chance to catch the Steve Ogden team from NS.
FOURS - Pauline Hill in a must win situation against the first place Alberta team to-day. An important win by Jo Anne Bugler over Elaine Jones yesterday. A sign they will take their annual run for the roses.
MEN - The big match here this morning is Sask/Quebec - Roney vs Sliman, both undefeated.
Bill Falconer can't lose to teams below in the standings. Alberta is the foe in the AM.
Roger Thompson gets his chance to make a mark in his match vs Sask in the PM.
