Burlington LBC Top Notch

Niagara Falls is spring training, Burlington is the season opener. All the big boys are gathered in one place as preparation starts for the run for the Fours roses.

Defending champs McCartney/Wood/Jefferies/LaPorte made the long trip from Cornwall/Ottawa. Steve McKerihen was doing the traditional family cottage opening but Anderson/Devonshire/Wallbank were on site and will challenge to make it 4 Canadians in a row.

Good to see Vince Donohue back on the greens as McKerihen's sub. Sandford/Harding/Foxhall/Haalstra( I think) will be trying from District 9. The first three were playing and closely matched with the Anderson team in a battle of the undefeated when I had to leave. No Ryan( Australian premier league commitments ) but three Besters and skilled Ian Jones are formidable.

Chris Stadnyk is skipping the youth movement with James McGowan/Malcolm Whyte /Greg Wilson in action.

By the way four participants for Canada at the 2008 World Bowls were on site. Stadnyk,Sandford and team manager Don Caswell were playing and Leanne Chinery couldn't stay away from such a social gathering. Really we don't acknowledge nor celebrate our high performing athletes nearly enough.

Caswell is a part of the Wright/Ryan Stadnyk/North team.

Chuck Townsend was playing and I know he will join James Covell/Bill Baxter/Dave Gray in D2 playdowns. I can guess at some of the pieces - Steffen/Butler/Terwillegar D14, Houtby/Nesbitt/Falconer D6. The McLellans D4, Green/Ferguson/Wales D10, Geniole D13.

I like to know who is involved so if you can add /correct the team field for the Ontario Fours Championships, by all means get in touch. The Women's field as well.

Kudos to the folks at Burlington. This is one of the best clubs in the country.

Green pace was announced as around 12, felt like 11++ to start and dropped as the rain did the same. Great job to reach this level in Ontario on this date. ( And no one can equal the Niagara Falls Club's ability to start the year off with greens ready to play).
