News Of Our Fellow Bowlers

A note from Cindy Taylor about her Dad, Murray.

For those not aware Murray Taylor suffered a heart attack on Sunday July 13, while lawn bowling in Hanover.

Murray’s family is indebted to his team-mate John Ferguson who called for medical assistance.

He was taken by ambulance to Hanover Hospital and then transferred to St. Marys Hospital in Kitchener.  On Monday July 14 Murray had a triple by-pass operation.

Murray appreciates and thanks all those who have made inquiries and sent best wishes.  While he remains in Hospital and unable to have visitors at this time, anyone wanting to send “get well greetings”  can do so at the following address:                      Murray Taylor
                                                Box 197,
                                                Grand Valley, L0N IG0

Notes from the field:
District 15
It looks like the host club will have one of its own to cheer on in the Singles Championship.
Sylvia Poulain from the Campbellford L.B.C. finished 2nd in the Districts.
District 5
J12 Well, after 39 individual matches to 21 points, and something in the area of 800 to 1000 ends played, District 5 has crowned Richard Peart as it's 2010 Champion!

It only took 3 days to complete.

J11 The ladies were won by Joan Way over Julia Farrell in the final.
The mens extends into day 3 on Monday evening with Rich Peart taking on Peter Clarke in the final. Rich took me[ Dave Burrows] out facing three down and game for two consecutive ends with two perfect shots on his last bowls to win 21-19. Peter took out Greg Wilson in another barn burner. 25, 28, and even 31 end games were the norm, with some games going three and a half hours.

J10 District 5 began Saturday, with 20 entries in the mens singles, and 8 in the ladies. After 3 full games plus tie breaker games, we have finally whittled the field down to the top 10 in mens and top 4 in ladies

District 14
J11It's over and what a finish!
Robert finally beat his younger brother.
Alan started off with a little bit of a lead but Robert kept plugging away and came back to tie the game twice. It was 18 to 17 for Alan when Robert pulled the rug out from beneath  Alan's feet and scored a 4 end to win the game!
J10 We still have another day to go before the district 14 men's single champion is decided. There were only two ladies entered, and Laura Hawryszko from Cobourg won it.
The Steffen brothers are still in, along with Jim Butler and Don Northeim.
In the last game to-day Robert beat Alan 21 to 20!
