Canadian Seniors Maple Ridge BC 2008

Jeannie Christie, Helen Wright, Joyce Kruss won their game but it didn't matter
Hugh Branston, Bill Falconer, John Bush lost their game and it did matter.
Lights out. Lock the door when you leave.
A nice finish by the Don Thornton, Frank Duransky, Fausto Angelini team. They knocked off the first place NB trio and finished with a win over NS. You might not move far in the standings but it puts some strut back in your walk.

Well, the movers were here but I don't know if the contents are sufficient.
Branston/Falconer/Bush did win 2 of 3 and combined with a 10th round upset by Nova Scotia over the then leading BC'B', Ontario'A' s opportunity to play for bronze is in their own hands. A look at the standings will show 4 teams tied with 10 points at the top, including BC'B', and ON'A' and BC'A' just behind with 9. Beat BC'B' , in both teams last game, and the Niagara Falls crew will be in the medal round. Even if BC'A' win their game over Quebec since Uncle Hughie and friends beat the Chris Grahame BC team yesterday, the podium is possible.
The deciding match for the Christie/Wright/Kruss team's quest for a medal has already been played according to my tie-breaking interpretation. They lost to BC'A' 16-17 late yesterday and that is the difference in playing on or going home. Even if ON'A' win and QC beat BC'A', the day before is the day of reckoning.

Sunday is moving day in the west. Not to the new school residence but into the contender's quarters.
Branston/Falconer/Bush play 3 with a sweep likely necessary to play for the big prize.
Christie/Wright/Kruss need to win their only game to-day to stay with the group chasing Manitoba. They play the suddenly hot Nova Scotia team who won both games yesterday.
Speaking of temperature rising, the Waites/Kelly/Boston trio were just edged 19-20 by contending SK and then whacked QC 36-10. Perhaps the warmup for knocking off the leaders from Manitoba to-day.

The women's group has taken on a 'have and have not ' look. Christie/Wright/Kruss win 2 including a significant 23-9 victory over SK to stay in the top half. They play another highly ranked team in Manitoba t0-day. The Waites/Kelly/Boston team came tough at night with a 13-13 tie vs AB, another frontrunner. That sets the mood for their turn vs SK to-day.
Branston/Falconer/Bush were looking for a 3 game sweep day until they were nipped by QC at night 13-16. They do remain just behind the leaders in a tight men's group.

Is a tie like kissing your sister!. They are related being both men's teams are from Ontario. Five of the men's division have 2 points after day 1 and the aforementioned cousins are right behind.
Jones and Roney are at it again -east or west. The Christie,Wright,Kruss crew were not as accomodating with their neighbours and then lost a tight game with the other 2 game winner of the day,Alberta.

It is a strong field and Ontario will be in the battle for Gold. Jean Roney(SK) and Elaine Jones(MB) were silver and gold in Halifax. Pat Beggs(NB) and Chris Grahame(BC) finished fourth at the same venue.
Age is not a factor in this game of touch and wile.
Lots of experience and skill in the travelling bags of this home province contingent. The Ontario Men have won the Senior Canadian Championship 3 years in a row, including in 2006 by this year's 'A' reps Hugh Branston,Bill Falconer,John Bush.
Jeanne Christie and Helen Wright ( from Nova Scotia to British Columbia with just time to do a wash ) return to the Nationals after Provincial Gold in 2007 with the talented Joyce Kruss added to the mix.
I know Jo Waites and Barb Kelly have played in the Major Canadians because I saw them a couple of times . Glenna Boston won a Canadian Pairs title with Doreen Creaney. Just a sampling of success - they can play.
Don Thornton started in Oshawa, moved to Windsor and is now taking his talent farther afield. Harrow resident Frank Duransky, as good as he is keen , and Fausto Angelini , an exacting draw bowler( Ontario Silver Singles 07) all are in the air - without a plane.
Maple Ridge is 25 miles east of Vancouver. No PEI this time but a 10 team draw with double entries for Ontario and the host Province. Each team play their 9 games of the round robin from Thursday to Monday (5 days) with the medal rounds on the first day of school.
Working on bringing the results by quick return mail to your home port.
