Lawn Bowls - A Good Pace To Be - A Little Higher, A Little Further
Competitive lawn bowling mixed with a twist of life. A skilled exciting game hidden from the masses by its image. Often only takes one roll-up to leave you wondering why you waited.
My Ponder List

DARREN BURNETT SCOTLAND 21 RYAN BESTER CANADA 9
Ryan was up 3-1 early and then Burnett countered with a 4/3/2 run to go up 10-3 and set his sails for the finish line. The home country police officer completed a splendid double, winning the 2014 World Indoor Chanpionship as well.
Nevertheless a great performance by Bester as his silver success in this event coupled with his World Pairs title in 2004 with Keith Roney adds credence to his recognition as one of Canada's top bowlers ever.

Couldn't be better. Host country favourite vs Canada's best bowler in the CWG Lawn Bowling finale.
Two countries that attended a winter camp together in Sarasota Florida in preparation for this very scene. Splendid.
SEMI-FINALS
July 31, 7:45 AM DST
RYAN BESTER CANADA 21 SHANNON McILROY 10 NEW ZEALAND
Smokin - Never tied, never behind. Ryan was leading 9-5 after 9 ends then took the winning run of 1/3/2. That made the score 15-5 and Bester rode the spurt all the way to the end.
Certainly a tougher match for Bester in this round. Mcilroy defeated England's Sam Tolchard 21-12 in his 1/4. But the lad from Hanover has had some time to adjust to the different conditions bowling in Scotland in comparison to his Australian home base. Two down unders, it should be a good one.

need to beat South Africa. Pure and simple.
RYAN BESTER To Quarter-finals 21-19 over Fiji
Ryan has won his first 2. Beat Fiji early morning and he is in. Bester will play Malaysian in his final section game, a top flight opponent. Best to have that as a warm up game not a 'do or die' match.
KELLY McKERIHEN, LAURA HAWRYSZKO, MARY ANN BEATH Not to be NZ 23-12
Beat New Zealand and Fiji lose or tie. Points would be even between Canada and Fiji if the latter draws but Canada would have a better Differential.
LEANNE CHINERY, JACKIE FOSTER - Drats, so close. England 14 Canada 13
Beat England will do it and a little help. Two defeats by Wales also gets Canada in on the differential tie breaker.
Watching when I can on the road. Home July 28
No time to get off to a slow start in this competition. For example the women's Fours have 3 games over 3 days.Short schedule and with point differential being so crucial in each section, it is a reminder to the teams of the value of each point scored and lost.
The reason for the unbalanced sections - The draw is made 1 week after the close of entries. If a team withdraws after the draw, their space will become a bye. No re-draws.

Six of the 12 matches were decided by tie breakers.

Last day of Round Robin and it is top 3 or pack your bags. Jeff has pulled them out of the closet but Shirley still has one of those ' win 2 today and get lots of help' chances to grab the third spot in her section.
Fitzpatrick-Wong is on a 4 game winning streak including a dandy 2-1 tie breaker victory over 2nd place England yesterday.
Netherlands 6 - 4
Israel 6-4
Canada 5-5
Shirley plays both. Israel play the England and Netherlands finish with Zimbabwe. The latter game is the upset that is lowest on the probability charts.
RAIN All week and into the next predicted for Christchurch. Greens may be better for surfing.

From the BCB website:
"The 2013 Indoor Singles Championship has concluded and history has been made. For the first time in 10 years we have a repeat winner. Ontario’s Kelly McKerihen has won back to back titles after defeating Saskatchewan’s Jean Roney (4-10,11-1,3-1) in a game that was one of the most competitive of the championship.
Kelly becomes only the fourth woman to win back to back titles joining Sue Smith (1998-1999), Lynn McElroy (2000 - 2001) and Leanne Chinery (2003-2004).
In the Bronze medal game, Belle Chan defeated provincial for Jeni Sui in straight sets (11-2,8-4).
On the Mens side, the round robin finshed with Vince Mai atop the standings. He translated that into the final as well defeating defending champion Pat Bird in the Gold Medal game in straight sets (9-6,8-7) to capture the title. Mai was at or the near the top of the standings all week.
Mai last won the Indoor Championship in 2009. Bird was looking to continue a string of successful men’s champions after Geoff Perschick of BC last did it in 2011 and 2012.
The Mens Bronze medal game, as in the Women’s side saw an all BC matchup. It featured Tim Mason taking on Michael Leong. Mason proved to be too much again as he defated Leong in straight sets (10-6,13-1). The two played each other in Round 7 of the round robin which Mason won in three sets (4-11,8-5,2-1).
With the win, McKerihen and Mai will now repersent Canada at the 2014 World Cup in Warilla. Congratulations to both of you."

They do it again starting now, 4:00 PM EST.
Tim Mason wins his game big over Paul Higgins but although the top 3 players are tied with 18 match points, Total Set Points rules the final placements.
Michael Leong beats Dave Cox in a tie breaker to fend off David Anderson's attempt to join the medal round. Anderson beat John Bjornson to tie Leong in match points but again 14.5 - 13 in Set Points is the difference.

One more round to go and clearer but some final important positioning to be decided.
What we know;
PAT BIRD will have a chance to defend his title
VINCE MAI and TIM MASON will play for a medal
Pat Bird vs Vince Mai - do they play once or twice today
Tim Mason vs Paul Higgins - a Mason win and a Bird morning flight, Vince and Tim change positions
Michael Leong defeats Dave Cox and he plays for Bronze
A Leong loss and the winner of the John Bjornson, David Anderson match moves into the Bronze slot.

Defending Champion Kelly McKerihen and Saskatchewan's Jean Roney will play for Gold on Saturday.
They played their preview game yesterday afternoon in the Round Robin with McKerihen edging Roney 6-5, 8-8 in a match reflecting their status at the top of the standings. With the last RR today their 4 point gap on the rest of the field seals a much anticipated rematch.
In fact the Bronze game is the same status as both Jeni Sui and Belle Chan of BC could be caught in game points but will hold the final medal positions by the second tie breaker, set points. [ My read on the conditions of play ]
On the men's side it is a different story.
With 3 rounds still to be played, 6 players are within reach of grabbing the golden ring.
Mind you both defending champion Pat Bird and Tim Mason are making a strong statement that they will retain their current one, two status and meet on the morrow.
It wasn't easy yesterday.
Bird had tough foes in David Anderson and John Bjornson and won tie breakers 5-6, 8-6, 3-2 and 7-8, 10-4, 5-3 respectively.
Mason had a dandy against another challenger, Michael Leong, winning 4-11, 8-5, 2-1 and closing the day with his 2nd win against Raymond Noble.
Just 2 points back of the leaders are Leong and Vince Mai, the early leader at the start of the week. They face each other today which will be a pivotal match to help decide their potential for both the colour and being active or a spectator Saturday. Leong's afternoon draw is against Bird.
Round 9 ( 9 AM ) - ( Noon EST )
Key matches
Bjornson & Mason - John always a gamer and Tim on a roll
Leong & Mai - what could be better. Go forth or drop back match
Roney & Wilkinson - Keith lost 2 tie breakers yesterday, Jessi knocked off Mai in his 2 win day
Round 10 ( 2 PM ) - ( 5 PM EST )
Bird & Leong - possible top dogs in a scrap
Mason & Cox - Tim needs foot on pedal, Dave can still bite
Mai & Anderson - Vince looking for early magic, David wants a 2 win day to play for a medal
Thursday, November 7
Three days down and it seems like most everyone is still in the running for a medal.
My Mai - the wily veteran Keith Roney brings the undefeated, 5 straight, Vince Mai back to the pack with a tie breaker victory. Four tied for first including defending champion Pat Bird of Alberta, the upstart Michael Leong from the home club and Vancouver's Tim Mason who jumped into the top four and over David Anderson with his victory.
Roney's victory gave him a new look and hope at the ladder he must climb. At the same time John Bjornson from Manitoba, a known strong singles competitor, was surprised by a loss to Jessi Wilkinson. Alberta's Wilkinson garnered his first victory but he has been playing close matches to date as indicated by his 5.5 set points.
Dave Cox from the rose province is lurking. Good and plenty.
Jean Roney kept her undefeated streak going with her second tie breaker victory, this time over BC's Jeni Sui. Defending champ Kelly McKerihen is right behind after besting Claire Day in two straight sets. Local bowler Belle Chan has now knocked off both Ontario competitors when she defeated Laura Seed in yesterday's draw.
